Arcadia, Calif.-based supermarket chain Vons, a division of Safeway Inc., said it has agreed to a new contract with the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 711 that will cover 21 Vons stores and 1,500 workers in Las Vegas.
"We expect the UFCW will bring this agreement to the employees very soon for ratification," said Debra Lambert, Vons' spokeswoman. "The existing contract with the UFCW is due to expire on July 1. This is an early settlement because we were able to work out the details and terms quickly."
Lambert said wage raises were included in the new contract, but declined to reveal further details.
Roberta West, the UFCW's local president, could not be reached for comment.
