May 2: Falklands War Explodes
Story: British warships and fighter-bombers bombarded Argentine positions on the Falkland Islands Saturday and engaged Argentine Mirage jets in a fierce dogfight as the South Atlantic crisis exploded into war.
June 13: Thousands jam New York streets for anti-nuke rally
Story: As many as 700,000 people swarmed through the streets of Manhattan Saturday and descended on Central Park to sing and chant against nuclear weapons in the biggest disarmament demonstration in the nation's history.
Sept. 19: Massacre in Beirut could reach 1,000
Story: Hundreds of Palestinian civilians were massacred in two refugee camps on the outskirts of Beirut, apparently by Lebanese Christian militiamen given control of the camps by Israeli occupation forces.
Oct. 5: Leads in Tylenol slayings fizzle out
Story: Johnson & Johnson late Monday suspended all production of Extra- Strength Tylenol capsules, and investigators said "many leads" fizzled in the search for whoever slipped cyanide into some of the pills, killing seven people.
Oct. 5: Car bomb blasts Lefty
Story: Prominent gaming figure Frank "Left" Rosenthal was injured Monday night when an explosion ripped through and gutted his car while it was parked near Marie Callender's restaurant at 600 East Sahara Avenue.
Nov. 11: National leaders honor Brezhnev
Story: World leaders Thursday paid tribute to the late Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev. But only a few leaders offered candid appraisals of the Soviet leader and even fewer ventured to guess what direction the Kremlin's new rulers would take the country after his 18-year tenure.
