Editorial: Let’s don’t touch state’s helmet law

Assemblyman Don Gustavson is at it again -- the Sun Valley Republican is trying a third time to repeal Nevada's law that requires motorcyclists to wear helmets. Supporters of a repeal contend it's about freedom of choice, but the reality is that this is a safety issue. Helmet laws are just like all the other rules of the road that are meant to protect others -- and ourselves -- from harm.
At one time there were drivers who were outraged by mandatory seat-belt laws; now it's second-nature for motorists and passengers to strap them on. Just like seatbelts, helmets save lives and prevent debilitating injuries. The Legislature should take this sorry bill and throw it in the trash heap where it belongs.
