A Clark County middle school teacher was arrested Monday and accused of having sex with a former student just two days after another area school employee was arrested for having sexual contact with a student.
Newell Leavitt, 48, a teacher at Lyal Burkholder Middle School in Henderson, was booked into the Clark County jail Monday on four counts of sexual assault, Sgt. Ken Young, a Clark County school police spokesman, said.
Leavitt is accused of having sex with a former student, a 15-year-old girl currently in high school. Leavitt, of North Las Vegas, is accused of having sexual contact with the girl in a classroom at the school Thursday, Young said.
A friend of the the student notified police with information about the contact between Leavitt and the student.
Leavitt was held this morning in the jail on $60,000 bond.
School police arrested 30-year-old Michael Vicious Saturday on one count of sexual conduct between employees of schools and a pupil. Vicious is the theater manager at the Las Vegas Performing Arts Academy, Young said.
