CARSON CITY -- A mini flap has developed over a driver for Gov. Kenny Guinn who passed a school bus in Carson City with the stop sign on the bus reportedly displayed.
The driver, who has not been identified, was not cited or disciplined. And there are conflicting versions of the story.
Kevin Curnes, transportation director of the Carson City School District, said the incident occurred a month ago on West Musser Street near the Gleason School, when a bus driver was unloading passengers. The driver said a black car with the license plate "1" went around the flashing red lights on the school bus, instead of stopping.
Curnes said the incident was reported to the Carson City sheriff's office but no citation was issued.
Jack Finn, press secretary for the governor, said the driver of the governor's car stopped for the bus. The stop sign on the bus was displayed but there were no children and no driver in sight, said Finn. After waiting several minutes, the governor's chauffeur "crept" around the bus at less than 5 mph, Finn said.
The governor's driver thought the bus was parked, Finn said.
