Man dies in fire at home
Monday, Feb. 12, 2001 | 11:09 a.m.
A 62-year-old man was found dead in the remains of his southeastern Las Vegas home that was destroyed in a fire early Sunday morning.
The man, whose identity had not been released this morning, is the fourth person to die in a fire in Las Vegas this year.
The fire in the 4400 block of Annie Oakley Drive, near Sandhill Road and Twain Avenue, started about 2:30 a.m. By the time firefighters arrived, the house covered in flames, Clark County Fire Department spokesman Steve La-Sky said.
The victim, who lived in the home with his adult daughter, was found dead just outside a bedroom door, La-Sky said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, as does the cause of a Feb. 5 condominium fire that took the life of another man. That fire started in an eight-unit building at the Casa Vegas Condominiums in the 1400 block of Vegas Valley Drive.
A 44-year-old woman jumped from a second-story window to escape the flames.
On Jan. 21 Roosevelt Jones, 71, died in an early morning fire after becoming trapped in his house by metal security bars, and Brandy Jo Johnson, 26, of Las Vegas was found dead in the aftermath of a blaze in a house being renovated near downtown Jan. 29.
