Judge to decide if boxer should be forcibly medicated

Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 | 10:20 a.m.

Ibeabuchi is accused of sexually assaulting an outcall service entertainer in July 1999, but some doctors say he isn't competent to stand trial. They also don't believe Ibeabuchi will ever become competent without anti-psychotic medication.

Ibeabuchi and his attorney, Richard Wright, however, contend the medication's side effects will ruin his boxing career - one he hopes to continue if he is acquitted.

Two northern Nevada mental health experts testified on Thursday that Ibeabuchi's mental status likely will deteriorate without the medication.

Bonaventure asked attorneys on both sides to submit briefs and scheduled a March 23 hearing.
