LV’s MacCachren holds SCORE points lead
Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 | 11:35 a.m.
Returning to his desert racing roots, Las Vegas' Rob MacCachren has assumed the overall points lead after the recent season-opening SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge.
MacCachren, a second-generation Southern Nevada desert racer, won Class 1-2/1600 in his VW-powered Fraley race car, marking his first SCORE race in the 1600cc class since his rookie season in 1983.
MacCachren, 35, came from 34 seconds behind after the first half of the race to win by 14 seconds in the class which featured a race-high 30 starters out of 181 total racers.
SCORE points are determined both on final finishing position and number of vehicles which started the race within the individual class.
With his upset victory in Laughlin, Las Vegas' Brian Collins leads the featured SCORE Trophy Truck division in his Collins' Motorsports Chevy Silverado. Collins was fifth after the first half of the two-day 96.80-mile race.
Las Vegas' Danny Anderson is third in overall points after one race, leading Class 10 in his Toyota-powered Jimco.
The five-race Duralast SCORE Desert Series heads south to Mexico for the first of three races in Baja California, the 15th Annual SCORE San Felipe 250 desert race, March 15-17.
