Letter: City should be ashamed
Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 | 10:17 a.m.
I am embarrassed for Las Vegas.
During all the pregame publicity for the XFL game, I kept wondering why everyone seemed to think this was a good thing for our community. I watched the game on TV and still couldn't understand why this low-class, trashy event could benefit Las Vegas. Why are businesses and agencies (including the Las Vegas Parks and Recreation Department) sponsoring the XFL?
I was overjoyed to read Dean Juipe's column of Feb. 5, agreeing that this event was less than tasteful. The players' skill and professionalism leave a lot to be desired and the cheerleaders must have been recruited from the "gentlemen's clubs" on Highland Drive.
It's good to know I'm not alone in my opinion.
