Letter: Average person will struggle because of Bush
Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 | 9:50 a.m.
The news media has proclaimed the first two weeks of the Bush administration a huge success. False. He is off on an orchestrated public relations campaign to convince the public and the news media that he is a "compassionate conservative," whatever that might be, in his mind.
It has been a propaganda barrage that the news media have swallowed hook, line and sinker. He has made the most of "photo ops" to be seen with religious and black leaders, followed by trips to the Democratic and Republican retreats.
Yet he stands up there like a pompous Caesar, with a halo over his head, proclaiming his victory. He charges ahead with his agenda as if he had won the election in a landslide. He seems to forget that he did not win the popular vote, and probably, when the final votes are tallied, he would not have won the electoral vote, either.
It seems there is no chance for the American people to hope that the compassion of this president will better their lives.
Only those who pray at the altar of gold and greed will benefit from this presidency, while the average person will struggle to make ends meet.
