The UNLV women's basketball team erased most of a 25-point second-half deficit and pulled within three points, but could never regain the lead as it fell to BYU, 89-83, Thursday night in a Mountain West Conference game at Provo, Utah.
The Lady Rebels (14-6, 4-4) closed the Cougars' (13-8, 5-3) lead to three, 82-79, with only 1:13 left to play. However, BYU stayed at least two possessions ahead, forcing the Rebels to foul. BYU shot an outstanding 92.3 percent from the line (24-for-26) to go along with 50 percent shotoing from the floor.
Despite playing without center Petra Glaser, who injured her left knee last week against Colorado State, UNLV was able to dominate the boards, taking a 36-29 rebounding advantage.
Kinesha Davis led UNLV, scoring 21 points and going 4-for-4 from three-point range. Linda Froehlich scored 14 and grabbed a season- and MWC-high 18 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the year.
