Another recruit signs with UNLV
Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 | 12:41 p.m.
UNLV's 2001 football recruiting class grew to 20 on Thursday when offensive lineman Sheddrick Mitchell (6-7, 325) of Butte Community College in Oroville, Calif., faxed in his letter of intent as expected.
Actually, Mitchell, who began his career at Rutgers in 1998 before bouncing back to Butte, was supposed to fax his letter in on Wednesday with the rest of UNLV's recruits. But he called Rebels coaches that afternoon to explain that he forgot to bring the document to school with him.
It is against NCAA rules to include a recruit on the official signing list unless the school either has a faxed copy of the letter of intent or the original copy in hand. Thus, Mitchell, who committed to UNLV back in December, could not be included on Wednesday's original signing list.
