New leaders officially assumed responsibility for positions within the Henderson Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol Tuesday at the group's first change of command ceremony.

The ceremony was held at the Henderson Executive Airport, with 10 cadets taking on various leadership roles.

Kevin Perkins of Basic High School was named cadet commander for 2001. His deputy commander will be Randy Perkins, also of Basic. The unit's first sergeant is Joshua Sharp of Silverado High School, and the public affairs officer is Abby Pasinski of Thurmond White Middle School.

New flight commanders for the year include Alpha Flight Commander Eric Brown of Mahlon Brown Middle School, Bravo Flight Commander Christopher Kravcheno, who is home-schooled, and Charlie Flight Commander Andrea Collins of Green Valley High School.

Derek Robinson, who is home-schooled, will serve as Alpha Flight first sergeant, and Julie Stolz, who is home-schooled, and Abby Pasinski will serve as first sergeant for Bravo and Charlie flights, respectively.

Civil Air Patrol is an auxiliary youth program of the Air Force and accepts students from the sixth grade through high school. Cadets meet once a week to study aerospace science, leadership, emergency services and drill and ceremonies.

"Our cadets also participate in various community service activities," said Gene Paul Pasinski, adult leader for the unit.
