Savvy wine buy: Clos La Fleur Figeac ‘97 St. Emilion Grand Cru
Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 | 8:41 a.m.
In Bordeaux' St. Emilion, the classification Grand Cru can be misleading, because the title doesn't compare with the loftier Grand Crus Classes. Nonetheless, this wine is a delicious example of a Bordeaux from a great house at a good price. The gravelly soil at Figeac contains nearly as much Cabernet Sauvignon as Merlot, and this wine, the second label of the great Chateau Figeac, is as typical of a fine St. Emilion as anything you'll find at this price. These wines can be tannic when young, so perhaps this is a wine you'll want to buy and store.
Available at Marche Bacchus, $17.99.
