SACRAMENTO -- California Gov. Gray Davis, continuing to seize the power contracts of cash-strapped utilities while negotiating more new ones, said his state is determined to get out of its energy crisis on its own.
"We're not waiting for someone to throw us a long pass. We're going to solve the problem ourselves," Davis said Monday as he announced he had used his emergency authority to seize $150 million worth of power-buying agreements.
Next up was an announcement scheduled for today at which the governor promised to reveal the results of days of bargaining with energy wholesalers in an effort to provide California with an affordable supply of power for perhaps as long as 10 years.
"We are moving at warp speed to find every additional megawatt we can," Davis said.
