Party for fourth, fifth grade students

A Valentine's Social is being offered 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., Henderson. Participation is open to fourth and fifth grade students for $2 per person.

The afternoon party will include music and dancing, contests and prizes. For more information, call 565-2121.

Class offered at NLV Library

An Internet class is being offered 6 p.m. Wednesday at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive. This class will focus on finding financial information on the Internet. For more information, call Kathleen Hanselmann at 633-1070.

Event planned for Fremont Street

The Mayor's 5K Run will be held 7:30 a.m. Saturday at the Fremont Street Experience. Mayor Oscar Goodman will be the honorary event chairman for this event, sponsored by the city's Department of Leisure Services.

The run is open to all age groups and abilities. It begins and ends at the Fremont Street Experience, starting at the corner of Third and Carson streets and finishing at Third Street and Ogden Plaza.

Trophies will be awarded for the overall fastest time for male and female finishers.

Entry fees are $15 for seniors and youth, $20 pre-registration for ages 18-55, which closes Thursday, or $30 on race day. Families of at least 4 can register for $60.

Program focuses on eye health

The Las Vegas Valley Senior Friends is offering the program "Keeping Your Eyes Healthy," 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the MountainView office, 8524 Del Webb Blvd. For more information, call 255-5404.

Free hikes, walks offered

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers free hikes and walks with reservations. Call 363-1922. Some coming programs:

"Mescalito": Four-mile moderate hike Friday for adults to examine the contact zone of Aztec sandstone and colorful Chinle shale.

"Bighorn, Life on the Edge": Three-mile moderate hike Saturday for adults to the saddle in La Madre Canyon to learn about bighorn and their problems, behavior and natural history.

"Bird's Eye View": Three-mile moderate hike Saturday for 12-year-olds to adults to enjoy great panoramic views of Red Rock Canyon.

"Turtlehead Peak Hike": Five-mile strenuous round trip Saturday to Turtle Peak for ages 12 to adult.

"Growing Up in Old Las Vegas": Easy 1-mile hike Saturday for ages 6 to adults.

"Insects in Winter": Two-hour program with easy 1-mile hike Saturday for ages 5 to 12 to learn where bugs go in the winter. Program will also be offered Feb. 11, 24 and 25.

Vaccines

Health District immunization clinics are open each week in Southern Nevada. Immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 21 in any of four public health centers and 15 satellite clinics. These clinics will be open Wednesday through Feb. 13:

DISTRICT HEALTH CENTER: 625 Shadow Lane, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

NORTH LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 1820 E. Lake Mead Blvd. 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

HENDERSON PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Building A, Suite 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

EAST LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 560 N. Nellis Blvd., Suite E12, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

BOULDER CITY CLINIC: Multi-Purpose Building, 1204 6th St., 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m., Wednesday.

DESERT BREEZE CLINIC: 8275 Spring Mountain Road, noon-4 p.m. Friday.

FREMONT MEDICAL CLINIC: 4880 S. Wynn Road, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. Immunizations free to anyone who walks in.

BELROSE WIC OFFICE: 2917 W. Washington Ave., 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Monday.
