CARSON CITY -- Students from Las Vegas high schools visited the Nevada Legislature today, the first day of the 2001 session, to learn how state government functions.
The students, members of the Future Elected Leaders of America, attended various legislative meetings, along with tours of the governor's mansion and other facilities in the state capital.
Students in the group attend meetings of various government entities to learn about local, state and federal branches of government.
They are required to prepare a paper detailing the activities they participate in. They also write a final paper on the highlights of the project, which includes how they will use their experiences in the future.
