Ticket buyer in Hudson County won state’s largest jackpot
Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001 | 10:03 a.m.
The drawing held Thursday night was worth $48.9 million. The winner had not come forward as of Friday, Lottery Director Virginia Haines said.
The previous record jackpot was $46.2 million drawn on Oct. 30, 2000. That was won by a Newark resident.
Lottery officials changed the Pick 6 game in September in an effort to boost the jackpots. The game matrix increased from 46 to 49 numbers.
Lottery officials also instituted a fixed prize of $3 for matching three of six numbers, eliminated the bonus draw and extended the annuity period from 25 to 30 years.
The winning numbers in Thursday's drawing were: 8-11-27-38-41-49.
