Slaying victim found in utility trailer
The body of a man believed killed in a downtown apartment was found Wednesday in a utility trailer.
Metro Police detectives received a tip earlier this week that a homicide may have occurred. Detectives arrested Bridget Pascua, 22, and Kimberly Crawford, 33, in connection with the slaying before the man's body was located.
Police found the man's car in the possession of one of the suspects and blood evidence in the trunk, police said.
The man's name was not released this morning and an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
State to get small portion of national settlement
Nevada will receive a small chunk of a $100 million settlement that a national drug company agreed upon with several states and individual consumers.
State Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa joined in the lawsuit that accused Mylan -- a company that produces anti-anxiety drugs -- of engaging in monopoly practices that led to price increases of 2000 percent.
Nevada agencies will divide up $18,500 from the settlement. A total of $28 million will be distributed among the states involved in the lawsuit.
The remaining $72 million will be distributed to individual consumers throughout the country.
In addition to the settlement, Mylan will also pay $8 million to the states involved in the suit to cover their legal expenses.
Clark County, UNLV planning planting day
Clark County and the UNLV Environmental Studies Department are sponsoring a community planting day in the Las Vegas Wash.
Volunteers will be planting about 9,000 aquatic plants around the margins of newly created wetlands ponds. The county, Southern Nevada Water Authority and other agencies are restoring marshes lost from surface runoff and floods.
To help, volunteers should arrive by 9:30 a.m. at the new nature center by driving east on Tropicana Avenue, crossing Boulder Highway and continuing past Rebel Road.
After the planting ends at 12:30 p.m., there will be a barbecue.
33 graduate from Law Enforcement Academy
More than 30 recruits graduated this morning from the Southern Nevada Law Enforcement Academy in a ceremony held at the Orleans.
Of the 33 graduates, three will go to work with the marshal's unit of the Las Vegas Department of Detention and Enforcement, four will work for the Clark County School District police, 11 will be officers with the Henderson Police Department, and 15 will go to the North Las Vegas Police Department.
Graduates have gone through 21 weeks of training at the academy.
