Letter: Disabled get good treatment

Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 | 10:15 a.m.

First of all there were 42 permanent handicap parking spaces. We were greeted by Thomas & Mack ushers who couldn't wait to show us how to get to two floor handicap seats. When another wheelchair user found out these seats were available, they readily took them to floor seats also.

I am the first to bark when Pat Christensen doesn't comply, and I am the first to admit that he and his staff have given the disability community a reason to go to Rebel basketball games.

I know they have a ways to go, but let's face it, it's on its way to opening its door to all Nevadans, and after all, that's been our plight all along. I would hope that the university asks this Legislature this session for further funds to finish the job. The money is there and we have a governor who has made people with disabilities a priority.

Thanks, Sun, for keeping this issue alive. Thanks, Thomas & Mack, for starting something you simply have to finish.
