Barbara Greenspun remembers 1980: Nuke dump must be fought
Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 | 9:15 a.m.
I recall Hank's concern when the news broke that a nuclear waste-laden truck was found parked in the Circus Circus parking lot. In his column of Oct. 3, 1980, Hank chastises public officials who were responsible for the hazardous materials being deposited at the Beatty dump.
There is a definite correlation between those days in 1980 and the even more disastrous consequences facing us today with the possibility of Nevada becoming the nation's nuclear garbage can.
Hank urged action then. Now it is even more imperative that we do everything in our power to keep nuclear waste out of Nevada and off the nation's highways. I encourage each of you to get involved as we must begin letting our voices be heard.
