Restart of air service on hold

Friday, Dec. 28, 2001 | 10:05 a.m.

The U.S. Department of Transportation is lifting the suspension of scheduled air service between Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport and Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C. next week. But the two airlines that flew the route earlier this year aren't immediately jumping back into the market.

A spokesman for Las Vegas-based National Airlines said the company remains restricted from flying the route because its planes are too large under current government rules.

America West Airlines, Tempe, Ariz., which had one flight a day to Reagan National prior to the ban imposed after the terrorist attacks in September, is considering its options and a spokeswoman said the airline probably would return service by the end of February.
