An Oregon man pleaded guilty to defrauding Las Vegas residents out of more than $425,000, Nevada Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa said Thursday.
Todd A. Surgeon sold investors shares of common stock in Americana Corp., which claimed to be a leisure equipment and spa distribution company.
Surgeon committed securities fraud by telling investors that the investments were risk-free and guaranteed. He also failed to disclose to investors that a top official for the company had previously been indicted for conspiracy, wire fraud and aiding and abetting in federal court.
Surgeon faces between one and five years in state prison as a result of his guilty plea. He may also be ordered to pay restitution to investors he defrauded.
People who believe they have been victims of securities fraud should call 486-2440.
