Police: Man killed ex-girlfriend, self
Police say a Las Vegas man killed his ex-girlfriend and then shot himself to death on Christmas.
Friends of the couple said there was a history of domestic violence, but no incidents had been reported to the police, said Lt. Tom Monahan of the homicide unit.
The couple had not been dating for several months at the time of the shooting. Friends of the woman told police that she had not expressed any fear of the man.
Police were called to a home in the 1700 block of Fairfield Avenue, near Sahara Avenue and Industrial Road, about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday after shots were fired.
The names of the man and woman were not released this morning pending the notification of their families.

Police were called to Marotto's home in the 5200 block of Alta Drive near Decatur Boulevard about 7:30 a.m. Saturday and found him dead.
The cause of death was blunt force trauma, the Clark County coroner's office ruled.
No suspect has been identified or arrested, police said.

Man, lying in road, dies after being hit
A man lying in Bonanza Road Monday night was run over by a van and later died.
The van was eastbound on Bonanza Road near D Street about 8:15 p.m. Monday when the driver ran over the man, Metro Police said.
The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he died, police said.
The name of the dead man was not released this morning pending positive identification and notification of his family.
No charges have been filed against the driver.
Gas leak forces traffic diversion
A gas leak forced the closure of Rainbow Boulevard at Oquendo Road in Las Vegas this morning after a construction crew accidentally severed a two-inch line, a spokesman for Southwest Gas said.
A worker operating a Wells Cargo trencher cut the line at about 8:40 a.m., Roger Buehrer, Southwest Gas spokesman, said. County fire personnel responded and shut the gas flow off shortly after 9 a.m.
As a precautionary measure, traffic was diverted. Officials expected to have the road reopened by 10 a.m., Buehrer said.
