Some 386,000 Nevada residents will travel 50 miles or more from home during the December holidays, a 6 percent decline from last year, AAA travel experts say.
AAA spokeswoman Lisa Foster said a slumping economy and the higher jobless rate will keep about 35,000 more people at home this year than last year. About 83 percent of those that are traveling will go by car, up from the 74 percent reported a year ago.
About 66,000 Nevadans will travel by plane, train or bus, down 20 percent from the previous year.
AAA Nevada Travel agents say Hawaii is Nevadans' destination of choice, followed by Mexico, the Caribbean and Disneyland.
