Fishing in Lake Mead is continuing to decline with anglers finding it difficult to catch largemouth or striped bass.
One boater reported to the Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW) that he had fair success for stripers late last week by fishing with live shad in Las Vegas Bay. A shore angler also had some luck Friday by casting a Smokey Joe Spot lure at 8.0 Cove, which can be accessed on the 8.0 Road south of the Boxcar Cove turnoff.
During the past week shad have been moving into deep water and are now being seen at only a few locations. They are being netted for use as bait at Gypsum Wash and Las Vegas Bay.
Don Ebarb of Las Vegas caught a striped bass that weighed slightly over 45 pounds last week while fishing about a mile north of Cottonwood Cove. The fish was caught at sunrise while casting a lure from shore.
