The National Center for Responsible Gaming said it introduced an annual awards program designed to recognize ongoing research in the field of problem gambling.
Seven awards will be presented each year at the center's annual scientific conference in Las Vegas. Categories will include awards for journal articles, neuroscience research, social and behavioral research, public health research and public policy research, as well as awards for early career and distinguished career contributions.
The award selections will be made by the program advisory board of the Institute for Research on Pathological Gambling and Related Disorders at Harvard Medical School's Division on Addictions.
The casino industry-funded center, based in Kansas City, Mo., provides funds to research and education programs targeted at combatting problem gambling.
