Drivers warned of snow, ice

Snow and ice on the roads in the Mount Charleston area have prompted the state Transportation Department to issue a warning to drivers headed to the mountain.

Snow and icy conditions exist on state routes 156, 157 and 159 in the higher elevations, the department says. Chains or four-wheel-drive vehicles are required to get to portions of the mountain during storms.

Motorists are urged to heed message boards and proceed only if their cars are equipped with the proper safety measures.
