Suspect arrested in shooting of girl, 8

Metro Police have arrested a 30-year-old man and charged him with attempted murder in Saturday's shooting of 8-year-old Karatoya Wilkes.

Andre Lee was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Clark County Dentention Center, Metro Gang Unit Sgt. Dave Stansbury said.

"We tracked him down to the North Las Vegas Jail where he was being held on bench warrants," Stansbury said. "Since he wasn't going anywhere, we took our time, talked to the witnesses, and then went down and picked him out."

Wilkes' condition was upgraded to good at University Medical Center after being hit by a stray bullet from a gunfight started over a traffic argument near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Bonanza Road.

Witness said that Wilkes was in the shooter's line of fire, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting, and what role the other man in the argument played.

"We're getting conflicting reports on whether the other guy had a gun and if he actually fired," Stansbury said. "We're still investigating that."
