Las Vegas finished in a tie for second to New York as the U.S. city most Americans want to visit, a new survey says.
San Francisco and Las Vegas received 6 percent of the responses to a survey conducted by the Polling Institute of Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn. New York received 13 percent of the replies. The survey also listed Honolulu, Los Angeles and Orlando, Fla., with 5 percent each.
The survey, from a random sample of 1,400 people telephoned between Nov. 29 and Dec. 5, was representative of population trends nationwide.
Doug Schwartz, director of the Polling Institute, broke down other Las Vegas results. The city was named by 5 percent of the respondents in the Northeast and the West, by 6 percent of those surveyed in the South and by 8 percent of those questioned in the Midwest.
Young people favored Las Vegas more than older people. Las Vegas was listed as their favorite place to visit by 11 percent of those 19 to 29, 6 percent of those 30 to 44, 5 percent of those 45 to 64 and 4 percent of those 65 and older.
Las Vegas was favored by 6 percent of men and by 5 percent of women surveyed.
And, by income level, Las Vegas was favored by 7 percent of people surveyed in three income levels: those making less than $30,000 a year, those making $30,000 to $50,000 a year and those making $50,000 to $100,000 a year. It was favored by 2 percent of those who make more than $100,000 a year.
