Man in wheelchair struck by car while crossing street
Friday, Dec. 14, 2001 | 9:41 a.m.
A 53-year-old wheelchair-bound man was in critical condition this morning after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while crossing Sahara Avenue Thursday.
The driver of the car that collided with James W. Schuyler stopped briefly after the 5 p.m. accident on Sahara Avenue at Burnham Avenue and then drove off, Metro Police said.
The vehicle was traveling the right westbound lane of Sahara, and Schuyler was crossing in his wheelchair against the light. Schuyler pulled into the path of the car and was struck, police said.
Schuyler of Las Vegas was propelled forward and ejected from his wheelchair, landing on the curb, police said.
The vehicle was described as red with four doors, tinted windows, a silver emblem on the center trunk lid and a long reflective red stripe running along the bumper. The car may also have damage to the front.
Anyone with information about this collision, vehicle or the driver is asked to call Detective Oscar Chavez at 229-3786 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
