Middle school kids hope to raise $6,000
For the third consecutive year, students at Silvestri Middle School have raised money to buy toys for needy families.
Student Council members raised money for the event and will give the toys to the Clark County Fire Department, which will deliver the toys to needy families.
By lunchtime today, the students were expected to have bought more than $6,000 worth of games, puzzles, dolls and assorted toys during the last three Christmas seasons.
Vons teams up with Salvation Army
Vons Las Vegas is expected to give away $40,000 in food to needy families Wednesday as part of a Salvation Army holiday drive.
According to the Salvation Army, an estimated 150 families will receive groceries through the program and Vons officials are also trying to add a turkey to top off the packages.
The Henderson Boys and Girls Club,
Henderson Rotary and SAFE House are playing host to a New Year's Eve party at the Henderson Convention Center. Proceeds from the event will benefit the organizations. Call 565-6568 for more information.
