Letter: Desert must be protected
Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001 | 8:45 a.m.
I support the Citizens' Wilderness Proposal for the Mojave Desert. This proposal will protect the most threatened and ecologically significant areas in Southern Nevada from the unrestrained growth of Las Vegas and the damage to the land caused by a dramatic increase in off-road vehicle damage on public lands.
Wilderness protects the Habitat Conservation Plan, protects clean air and water, and preserves the land for people, not from people. I strongly support efforts to protect our last wilderness areas, and hope that other Las Vegans will join me in protecting our wilderness horizons from anti-conservationist off-road vehicle users.
