Las Vegans are honored as SCORE’s top drivers
Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 | 10:17 a.m.
Rob MacCachren, Troy Herbst and Danny Anderson of Las Vegas were honored not only as SCORE class champions but also as the top three overall points champions at the off-road series' annual awards night Saturday at the Orleans hotel-casino.
MacCachren won four of five SCORE races en route to winning Class 1-2/1600 and his first SCORE overall crown. Herbst won an unprecedented fifth consecutive title in Class 1 for unlimited open-wheel desert racecars and Anderson won the very competitive Class 10 championship for the second time in three years.
MacCachren, Anderson and fellow class champions George Seeley Jr. and Ron Dalke split the $12,000 Toyota True Grit award that went to the winners of non-factory-backed SCORE competitors who completed every required mile of the five races.
Jason Hunter of Santa Rosa, Calif., was honored as the 2001 SCORE Rookie of the Year; Wiks Racing Engines of Las Vegas was voted the year's top engine builder for the fourth straight year; American Honda (Motorcycle Manufacturer) won its fifth consecutive title; and Jimco was honored for the sixth straight season as the Original Buggy Chassis Manufacturer of the Year.
