Man struck on Boulder Highway
A pedestrian who tried to cross Boulder Highway near Desert Inn Road Sunday was killed when he was hit by a car, police said.
The man, who had not been identified this morning, was struck as he ran across the south travel lanes about 12:15 a.m., Trooper Daniel Solow of the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
The pedestrian was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:42 a.m.
Girl dies as truck overturns
A 16-year-old Pahrump girl died Sunday in a one-vehicle accident on Trout Canyon Road near State Route 160 in Pahrump Valley.
Katriese Mauer was ejected from the passenger seat of a pickup about 4:25 p.m. after the driver lost control, Metro Police said.
Jesse Lamm, 17, of Pahrump, drove off the side of the dirt roadway and overcorrected. The truck started to spin and then overturned, ejecting Mauer, police said.
Lamm was able to flag down a motorist, who drove Lamm and Mauer into Pahrump, where paramedics were called. Mauer was pronounced dead in Pahrump.
Boy darts into Tropicana traffic
A 7-year-old boy was critically injured when he was hit by a car Sunday while trying to cross Tropicana Avenue near Spencer Street.
Leonel Mera and two other boys tried to cross Tropicana Avenue about 4:45 p.m. from the middle of the block, police said. The three boys had crossed over the west travel lanes, outside of any crosswalk, and were waiting on the center median for eastbound traffic to clear, police said.
Mera darted from the center median and was hit by a car going east on Tropicana Avenue, police said. He was taken to University Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
Times for final hearings extended
The Department of Energy announced that it will extend hearing hours for all three of its final hearings scheduled in Las Vegas, Amargosa Valley and Caliente on the Yucca Mountain high-level nuclear waste repository.
Instead of beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, all three hearings will run from 1 to 9 p.m.
The Las Vegas meeting is scheduled for Cashman Center, Rooms 103-106, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North, near Washington Avenue.
