Metro releases victim's name
The name of a 35-year-old man killed Oct. 31 was released this morning by Metro Police.
Aleso Mendez's name had been withheld until his family could be located.
Thomas Williams, 31, was charged with murder in the shooting of Mendez. Witnesses told Metro Police a man with a gun was seen chasing another man in the courtyard of an apartment complex on North 21st Street near Sunrise Avenue and shooting him.
Police found Williams hiding in an apartment after the shooting.
Suspects sought in unrelated incidents
Metro Police is asking for the public's help in identifying those responsible for unrelated robberies at a liquor store and a convenience store.
Police are looking for two men in connection with the robbery of a convenience store in the area of Lamb and Las Vegas Boulevard North. One of the men reportedly pretended to buy something, then pulled a handgun on the clerk; the second suspect jumped behind the counter and took money from the cash register drawer.
Both are described as being black and in their 20s, police said. The suspect carrying the gun is 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a medium build and a clean shaven face. He was wearing a long silver necklace with a large silver medallion.
The second suspect is 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build, moustache and goatee.
Police are also looking for a man in connection with a series of robberies at the Camelot Liquor Store at 5006 S. Maryland Parkway. The suspect uses a pistol in the robberies. When he runs from the store he heads toward the nearby Camelot Apartments, police said.
The suspect is described as black, 25 to 30, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and between 150 and 170 pounds, police said.
Anyone with information about these robberies is asked to call police at 229-3591 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
Meeting to air on Channel 4
Southern Nevada residents who missed the Clark County community meeting regarding a potential nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain can watch a broadcast of the meeting at 9 p.m. Sunday on Channel 4.
Other broadcasts from the Dec. 1 meeting are scheduled for 9 p.m. Monday, 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. Dec. 14 and 4 p.m. Dec. 15.
The expert panel, hosted by former Sen. Richard Bryan, featured Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., Clark County Commission Chairman Dario Herrera, County Commissioner Myrna Williams and video messages from Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., and Reps. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., and Jim Gibbons, R-Nev.
The county's draft impact report was released during the meeting. It outlines the economic impact should a repository for 77,000 tons of nuclear waste be built 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
Comments from the meeting will be included in a report to the Department of Energy from the counties and the state. The public can comment by calling the county's Yucca Mountain hotline at 455-5820.
