New slot machine theme based on comic character

Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 | 10:38 a.m.

Anchor Gaming of Las Vegas said today it signed a licensing deal with United Media to develop and market a slot machine based on the comic strip Dilbert, a humorous workplace icon, and several of its characters.

The game is under development and regulatory approval is hoped for in 2002.

"Dilbert is one of the most popular and recognizable comic strips today," said Dean Ehrlich, general manager of Anchor unit Anchor Games.

"I like the idea of moving Dilbert from the cubicle to slot machines. His odds are better," Dilbert creator Scott Adams said.

Anchor says Dilbert is the most photocopied, pinned-up, downloaded, faxed and e-mailed comic strip in the world. "Many readers, particularly those employed at large corporations, are convinced that Adams works at their companies since he conveys corporate inanities so perfectly in his comic strip," Anchor said.

Dilbert appears in 2,000 newspapers -- including the Las Vegas Sun -- in 65 countries and 19 languages.
