Letter: Don’t grant terrorists rights

Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 | 8:41 a.m.

When I served in the military in World War II, certain constitutional rights were denied. My letters to home were censored, and I didn't dare question authority for fear of being court-martialed.

It certainly isn't much different now. Why, then, do certain lawmakers question the administration's executive order to deny foreign terrorists our constitutional rights?

Hopefully, those legislators will be voted out of office, as were members of the Church Committee about 30 years ago after they dismantled our CIA and caused many non-trial deaths of our agents and informers by revealing their names to the public under the Freedom of Information Act.

In my opinion, the wave of terrorism, including the Iran hostage crisis, began with the Church Committee's decision. Pray that we don't see more acts of war on our own soil as a result of granting rights under our constitution to those who are determined to destroy it.
