Applications ready for Simon award

The Simon Youth Foundation, a nonprofit group providing educational and career development opportunities to youth, is calling for applications for its national Community Scholarship Program.

The program will award a $1,500 scholarship to high school seniors who plan to enroll in any accredited college, university or vocational-technical school.

Students will be selected based on their academic performance, leadership skills, community involvement and financial need.

Application forms are available at the Main Concierge Service Center at the Forum Shops at Caesars.

Students must submit the forms, along with official school transcripts and parent's most recently filed tax form, to the Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America, Inc. by Feb. 14.

Recipients will be notified by the end of May 2002.

Lied shelter sets goal for holidays

The Lied Animal Shelter is looking for Las Vegas residents to adopt 1,000 pets during the holiday season.

Hundreds of dogs and cats of all breeds are available, including puppies and kittens. The shelter also has rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, hamsters and mice.

People who are interested in adopting can go to the Adoption Center, 655 N. Mojave Road, north of Bonanza Road, every day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Adopters need to bring a photo ID and a proof of current address. For more information call 384-3333.

Past and future adopters

of Nevada's wild horses and burros can now find more information about the homelands of their animals. The Bureau of Land Management posted a description, location map and topographic map for about 75 herd management areas in Nevada on its website (www.nv.blm.gov/hma).
