DAVENPORT, Iowa -- City officials are looking for a designer who can turn a pedestrian bridge into a signature piece for the city's downtown renewal plan.
Of all the elements of Davenport's River Renaissance project, officials believe the most striking symbol will be the $6.8 million sky bridge that will span from West Second Street to the Rhythm City Casino.
"The idea is to entice innovative and creative designs who can create a signature piece for the city," Dee Brummer, the city's public works director, said. "If all goes as planned, this could well be the new symbol for Davenport."
The sky bridge pedestrian walkway is expected to rise from the east side of the refurbished Redstone Building on West Second Street, extend 40 feet into the air over a planned parking ramp, River Drive and the railroad tracks, before descending near the riverboat casino.
