A national nonprofit organization that accredits law enforcement agencies has renewed the accreditation for the North Las Vegas Police Department, city officials said.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. examined the department's policies, observed procedures, interviewed officers and sought comments from residents before making a decision.
The accreditation process is voluntary and the commission has accredited about 500 law enforcement agencies in the United States, Canada and Barbados. In Clark County, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Las Vegas City Marshals & Detention are also accredited.
The North Las Vegas Police Department first received accreditation in 1993 and received a renewal in 1998.
