Suspect booked in shooting death

A 21-year-old man was booked Thursday in connection with the killing of a 39-year-old man caught in the cross fire when gunmen fired at another man.

Omar Robles was charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with a shooting that left Nazario Rios-Olivera dead and the intended target wounded, Metro Police said.

Robles was in the Clark County jail on unrelated charges when he was re-booked on the murder and attempted murder charges, police said.

Rios-Olivera was helping his young daughter put her bicycle away at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of North 13th Street Aug. 24 about 9:40 p.m. when the shooting started. He shielded his daughter from the gunfire, police said.

Robles and another suspect are accused of shooting at another man and hitting him in the leg, police said. The second suspect had not been arrested.

Arrest made in L.A. in Las Vegas killing

A 19-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in Los Angeles in connection with the May 8 killing of an 18-year-old woman in Las Vegas whose body was found in a closet.

Isaiah Broxton was held in a Los Angeles jail pending an extradition hearing to Las Vegas. Metro Police detectives were able to identify the suspect with the help of Los Angeles County Sheriff detectives, said Lt. Wayne Petersen of Metro's homicide unit.

Broxton is accused of shooting Ashley Forney to death while the two were staying in the apartment of a person they met in downtown Las Vegas. The pair told the local resident they were visiting from California and didn't have a place to stay, police said.

The woman allowed the couple to stay at her apartment in the 6000 block of West Washington Avenue near Jones Boulevard. She left when the couple started arguing. As she returned to the apartment, she asked Broxton where Forney was and he answered she left for a walk, police said.

The woman then went into the apartment and found Forney dead on the floor of a bedroom closet, police said.

Woman killed in auto accident

A woman was killed and two others were injured when the stalled car they were trying to push out of the roadway was struck by another motorist early this morning.

Cathy Pennington's car broke down about 12:40 a.m. on Tropicana Avenue near Koval Lane. Pennington's two passengers, Joann Marine and Patti Flagg, got out and started pushing the car toward the curb. Pennington's car went into the path of another driven by Roy Green, 57, of Las Vegas, Metro Police said.

During the collision, Marine, 40, of Henderson and Flagg, 32, of Las Vegas, were knocked to the ground. Marine was taken to University Medical Center were she was pronounced dead. Flagg, Pennigton and Green were also taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries, police said.

Another vehicle struck Green's car during the accident and Pennington's car was pushed into a sport utility vehicle after being struck, police said. Those two drivers were not injured, police said.
