Letter: Nevada should promote its own to top positions
Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001 | 9:40 a.m.
The Las Vegas City Council finally showed some wisdom when it hired David Washington, a well qualified and deserving firefighter from the department, to be the fire chief, instead of hiring someone from out of state. These dedicated longtime employees deserve promotions to the top job.
In-house promotions give employees something to work for. All of these plum jobs should go to Nevada residents, and that includes the superintendent of schools, president of UNLV and the coaches.
Believe it or not, we have a lot of intelligent and qualified people in the state of Nevada.
