Victim run over in street
An off-duty Metro Police officer driving home found a man lying in the street early this morning on Bonanza Road near Linn Lane.
The officer swerved and pulled over to help the man, when a vehicle traveling behind the officer ran over the man about 1:25 a.m. today, police said.
The victim, whom policed discovered later had been shot, died at the scene.
Area residents near where the man was found had called police to report hearing shots just before the officer found the man, police said.
The man has not been identified but was described as Hispanic, in his 20s wearing only blue jeans and a black and silver belt.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Metro's homicide unit at 229-3521 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
Officials to seek cite for building
Mexico is looking for a site to establish a consulate in Las Vegas, Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., says.
Ensign confirmed Tuesday that officials of the government of President Vicente Fox will make an exploratory visit to Las Vegas Friday and Saturday.
Mexican officials are expected to look at several locations and meet with leaders of the Hispanic community at a 9 a.m. forum Friday hosted by Ensign at the Sawyer State Building, room 4401.
State Sen. Jon Porter, R-Henderson, author of legislation encouraging the establishment of a consulate, also will participate, Ensign said.
