Gorman’s C.J. Watson headed to Tennessee

It didn't take the state's top basketball prospect long to decide where he wants to spend the next four years of his life.

Fresh off his first official college visit last weekend, Bishop Gorman guard C.J. Watson has given a verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee and new Volunteers coach Buzz Peterson, according to Gorman basketball coach Grant Rice.

The 6-2 Watson, whose parents attended high school in Nashville, had initially indicated he would visit Fresno State and Minnesota, with two more official visits -- possibly to Iowa State and UCLA -- in the cards before he would make a decision. Now, it appears, those trips are off.

Verbal commitments are non-binding, with Nov. 7 the first day basketball players can sign binding scholarship agreements with colleges. By Spencer Patterson
