Man shot while watering plants

Metro Police are looking for two men in connection with the killing of a 53-year-old man Friday morning as he watered the plants in front of his southeast Las Vegas home.

Richard Wood Sr. was shot several times by a gunman in a passing car in the neighborhood near Russell Road and Mountain Vista Street, Metro Police said.

Neighbors reported hearing gunshots about 8:45 a.m., and police found Wood dead with multiple gunshot wounds at his home in the 5800 block of Via Manigua.

Police said that two men in a light blue compact car approached the victim's house, and that the man in the passenger seat began shooting.

The passenger is described as a 50- to 60-year-old man with gray hair, wearing sunglasses and a khaki cap. The driver is described as being 30- to 40-years-old with dark hair.

The car had a Nevada handicap license plate, four doors and is possibly a Hyundai model.

Anyone with information about the identities of the suspects or a motive behind the shooting is asked to call Secret Witness at 385-5555 or police at 229-3521.

Victim killed at convenience store

Metro Police homicide detectives are investigating a fatal shooting Saturday evening at a convenience store parking lot near Fort Apache Road and Sahara Avenue.

Ian Holt, 22, of Las Vegas, reportedly was in an argument with a man in a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle at the store's gas pumps when he was shot, witnesses told police.

Holt was taken to University Medical Center and later died.

Police want to talk to Melvin Perkins, 26, who owns the SUV. Perkins is described as 6 feet 3 inches tall, 170 pounds with a shaved head and slim build. Police said they are not naming him as a suspect.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Secret Witness at 385-5555 or police at 229-3521.

A Brinley Middle School teacher was arrested Friday for possession of child pornography.

Daniel Tenbroeck, also known as Daniel Ten Broeck, who coached girls basketball, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on 20 counts of possession of child pornography, Metro Police Lt. Tom Monahan said.

Detectives for the Las Vegas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received information from a police department in the Midwest that a Las Vegas man was sending child pornography to a person he thought was a child, but was actually an undercover police detective, Monahan said.

Police issued a search warrant at Tenbroeck's residence, near Washington Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard, and arrested him.

A 39-year-old man died Friday night at University Medical Center after being hit by stray gunfire.

About 40 minutes later a man shot in the leg was found in an apartment near where the first victim was found, police said. The second victim was taken to UMC and was treated for his wound.

Rios-Olivera was apparently hit by a stray bullet when two men began shooting at the second victim, police said.

Power lines had warning lights

National Transportation Safety Board officials say that warning lights on a set of power lines were functioning when a plane flew into the lines and crashed near the Boulder City Airport earlier this month.

Just after midnight on Aug. 12, a Piper PA-28-180 hit a set of lines that run perpendicular to the western end of the runway, fell to the ground and caught fire. The pilot and the plane's only passenger died at the scene.

The power lines were 66 feet above the ground and were marked with red obstruction lights, according to an NTSB report.

A helicopter pilot who witnessed the crash said he thought the plane was coming in very low. The flight originated in Bullhead City, Ariz., officials said.
