Letter: Added charges are out of hand

Why is there no outcry from the public?
We now have a state agency telling us we have to contribute, via Nevada Power and other utilities jumping on the bandwagon, to assist low-income families with their utility bills. I was under the impression that this is a free country. I have a right to choose which charities I wish to support!
It's not the money, but the fact that we as individuals weren't asked to assist. Our state, county and other government agencies keep adding taxes with special names, such as a franchise fee on cable, which will probably go up again this year.
Then there is this new one on the electric and gas bills, and the water people will want the same. I think this is getting out of hand. Anybody think like I do?
