Lane’s partner is also an LV native

Scott Lane isn't the only Las Vegas native who has traded in his desert digs for some plush beach surroundings.

His beach volleyball partner, Casey Jennings, actually beat him to the surf and sand.

Jennings moved to Huntington Beach, Calif., in 1993 after he graduated from Clark High School so that he could become a professional beach volleyball player.

Unlike Lane, whose love for the sport blossomed in college, Jennings developed his passion for volleyball before high school.

"My parents were split up," Jennings said. "My dad lived in Lake Tahoe, so in the summers my brother and I would play around the lake there.

"By the time I was done with high school, I knew I wanted to play on the beach. I saw beach volleyball on TV."

Jennings and Lane will play in their final AVP Tour stop of the season starting Friday in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

It was easier for Jennings to enjoy the sport because he had success with it at Clark. His high school team won the state title his sophomore year and was runner-up the next two years.

Jennings knew Lane through the now disbanded Las Vegas Volleyball Club and the two became closer while helping Golden West College to a California state JC title in 1998.

Jennings later transferred to BYU and was a part of the Cougars' 1999 NCAA championship team, the same year Lane made it to the Final Four while playing for Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne.
