Letter: Priorities mixed in homeless issue
Monday, Aug. 20, 2001 | 9:10 a.m.
Is the Regional Planning Committee of Southern Nevada satisfied that the subcommittee on the homeless will be effective? If it is, it should not be!
The first priority, in 100-plus degree heat, is the temporary tent shelter in Mash Village. It isn't open and no attempt has been made to open it. Why? Do they only move when their request for $560,000 is met?
The "summit" will be held in September, and I'm sure that this will set the pattern of meetings, with no action until the next summit.
Homelessness is a social problem and a social disgrace, not an opportunity for political posturing and political "solutions."
