Retired engineer Juipe dies

Richard Joseph Juipe, 76, a retired civil engineer who once was the youngest mayor in the state of Michigan, died Tuesday in Las Vegas.
A Las Vegas resident for 16 years, he had been the general superintendent and vice president of a construction company. He was employed by the deKoning Construction of Ann Arbor, Mich., for 37 years prior to retiring in 1984.
Born March 13, 1925, in Detroit, he served in the Marine Corps during World War II and was assigned to the Pacific theater until being honorably discharged in 1945.
He was a member of the Brighton, Mich., City Council and later became mayor, at one time the youngest mayor in the history of Michigan.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce; a son, Dean, a sports columnist for the Las Vegas Sun; and a brother, Donald, of Detour, Mich.
